Family Background:
Edna comes from a household with both parents. She is the oldest of the four children. Despite of having both parents, the father is the sole provider and his salary, in view of other expenses, cannot sustain her education needs at secondary school level. The household properties portray a family that is struggling financially. Despite of this difficult background, Edna’s passion for school has never been shaken.
Edna's Education:
Edna was such a dedicated and disciplined student in primary school compared to most of her fellow students. She could usually remain behind after classes to study. It is not surprising therefore that Edna has an unbeatable academic truck record at primary school and the only female student that earned the KF scholarship. Her favourite subjects at primary school were English, Mathematics and Science.
At Leopards Hill Secondary School (Grade 8):
In Grade 8 Edna still finds Mathematics and Science to be her favorite subjects. Though she didn’t mention English as a continued favorite, she did mention that French was a difficult subject. Her parents have commented on how her spoken English has greatly improved, evidenced by the fact she speaks it more often than she has before.
Edna earned 7 distinctions in her 3rd Term examinations and also placed first in the overall academic class standing. Her success can most likely be attributed to her love for school. When she is home she says she misses the school environment. She loves the teaching at her new school and is serious about her opportunity of earning a quality education.
At the 2008 awards ceremony held at Leopards Hill Secondary School, Edna Lungu received awards for the 1st position in Geography, Religious Education, Information Technology, Office Practice and Civics. She received awards for 2nd position in Mathematics and Science.
Extracurricular Interests:
Edna is a very active girl, taking the opportunity to be involved in as many programs as possible to gain exposure and experience. She is currently involved in an Anti-AIDS club, and the JETS club. She participated in a JETS quiz on the Grade 8 team, which triumphed over the Grade 9 team.
She also plays on the school’s football, netball and basketball teams, and came fifth in an inter-house cross-country race.
Career Interests:
Edna would like to be an accountant.
What Others Think of Her:
Edna is a very quiet, but brilliant, young girl. She is very serious about her work and all her teachers say that studies are clearly her first priority. Edna is consistently first or second in her class.
Edna's Thoughts:
“First and foremost, I would like to thank KF for the help my parents and I are getting. Thank you for everything you have done and are still doing for me. As a member of KF, I have learnt a lot of things; not only in my academic learning but also in life.
I have learned how to reason instead of following blindly. I know how to handle myself. I am enjoying the environment in my new school and the way the KF students treat and help one another. We are like a family.
I am enjoying the subjects at this school especially science and mathematics. I wouldn’t even want to miss them. Ever since I started school here I have never missed a single subject or period.
I am also enjoying the activities that we do and the different trips that we go on. I hope I can do well to please you.“
